After 60 years, Southern Tire Company continues to grow
Southern Tire Company has kept South Tampa’s cars running for more than 60 years. Tony Ragano’s father, Joe, founded the business in 1954 based on a simple philosophy of honesty and integrity. Today his son Troy runs the shop with that same focus. “We know that our customers can have their cars worked on anywhere,” Troy says. “But we have third-generation clients still coming in after 40 years because they trust us. No matter what you come in for, you’re treated fairly.”
In addition to tires, Troy’s team establishes a personal relationship with you and your car, staying connected with a computer program that stores a vehicle’s profile and history. From diagnostic services, air conditioning needs, electrical maintenance, computerized alignment and balancing to suspension work, custom wheels and automotive repairs, mechanics use the latest state-of-the-art equipment on the market. And with another new acquisition—John Blue from South Howard Automotive—Southern Tire offers more in-house services with the latest state-of the-art equipment on the market to accommodate any make or model.
Their shop’s independence allows them to serve you, not a brand. The staff is constantly updating its working knowledge with classes and seminars in all makes and models. From repairing run-flat tires and tire pressure sensors to fitting a Mercedes CLS 500 with custom wheels, the team is at your service. “We handle everything,” Troy says. “We can get you anything you want or need.” But he won’t get you anything you don’t. Though technology has changed during the last 50 years, Southern Tire Company’s reputation hasn’t. Manager Duane Coffman has been serving the neighborhood there for 30 years. “We’re honest,” Troy says. “That’s why people come back to us. “We’re not here to get you for every dime. We want to make a customer for life.
